Description
This piece is made to resemble a Pilón, a type of mortar and pestle that is Indigenous to the Caribbean. This particular tool is tradititionally made out of wood. As a part of a thematic exploration how culture can manifest differently over time, in reaction to circumstance, this work acts as an artifact of a future not yet lived. If humans had to pack what they could and start over on another planet, what would that continuance of cultural existence look like? It is blending traditional objects and material with contemporary imagery and prose to remind us where we came from and provide strength for where ever we end up.
